The Stab Awards

The Stab Awards - Andy Irons

For those who got to see the world premiere of Fair Bits! in Sydney, you were one of the lucky 3000 who witnessed the only uncensored screening of the film. As parents, sponsors, industry folk and Billy's staff packed the Warriewood sports ground watching the 50-foot high screen, Al smashed a bottle over the head of Ben Stiller, before running his mouth off. His retort to Stiller was brilliant, passionate and eloquent: "What'd you say, motherfucker! Want some more of that! Fuck you... Fucker!"
Following the film, complaints were hurled at Billys and with Andy being the champ and all, it kinda didn't seem fitting. Andy's swearing was edited out but even so, the skit still remains the most memorable scene of the film. Says Andy: "I flew all night on the red eye from Hawaii, met up with Taj and those guys at breakfast. I thought I was gonna be in the background and had no idea I had to, TALK! They gave me the lines and I got these full-on butterflies in my stomach. When I got there and saw the movie trailer and the whole setup, I was really fucken nervous. And then Ben Stiller rocks out and I'm like, 'Oh shit.' Ben was really cool, though. When they wanted me to act like a psycho, get real pissed I was like, 'Sweet, alright!' And, I didn't want to break bottles over Ben's head and fuck him up but he was all, 'Don't worry, it's sugar glass, just wail it over my head.' I cracked him like six times and I guess I got a little too psycho and they had to edit it down."
And speaking of sweet cameos, if you've seen The Bruce Movie ($39.95, went on sale late August) you'll see some world-class surfing of Andy's younger bro Bruce at Chopes and Pipe and on tour. In the closing section during an Indo boat trip, however, it's the champ who steals the limelight. "Yeah, love it!" says Andy, when we mention tiis form in the closing section. "Yeah, well I've only seen it at the premiere and I was pretty wasted but I remember seeing a couple of clips and thinking, 'Right on!'."
