The journey to find a manoeuvre to top Dusty’s ultra-hucked reverse will begin January 1st, 2010 and run til August 31st, a window of 243 days. In that period they will no doubt receive the usual boggling clips from the world’s hi-fi magnates, though this year Kustom are putting an onus on uncovering some less refined talent.

“Last year the best rides were from a who’s who of recognised aerial surfers but with all the hype around Dusty’s win, and the money out on the table, I wouldn’t be surprised if this year the winning entry comes from some relatively unknown surfer,” says Andy Irons of the contest.

“So there’s a challenge. Let’s find those amateurs from the local beach break and see them try to bring down the big names of aerial surfing.”

Dustys forhand pump technique looks brilliant. Alot of pro surfers assume spazz, flailing, lurch mode as they race the face. It's whatever floats your boat though. Punts are this seasons colour of choice. Accessorise with flaired fingers or rail grab for that extra touch.

OK, so Nike, 'err Hurley, live fed the new Rob Machado'Taylor Steele film. The Drifter.

And it was an absolute shocker how self indulgent, how over the top boring the thing was.

Poor sod. Machado's film was an exercise in documenting Rob's midlife crisis.

Sheez, he could have made it easier, and a lot less embarrassing if he would have just gone on an episode of Oprah Winfrey.

Here is the really funny part. All the kids doing Airs are wearing skinny jeans, Dane Reynolds wears skinny jeans, he does airs and he is not a girl, yet all the old farts riding Retro single fins are in baggy jeans. I ride a plain boring thruster and wear straight cut jeans, so I'm not sure where I fit in.

Oddly enough we have the final ASP surf competition coming up. The one which will decide the World Champion, and unless by some fault of mother nature Pipeline is reduced to three foot slop. I am guessing not a single Air will be scored, therefore the World Title will be decided on a surfers ability to ride big hollow barrels.

In addition, haters who come on the internet and tell other people to shut the fuck up and call them fuckwads as opposed to just saying I disagree with or I'm sick of hearing that argument are complete assholes who are either very young and still completely stupid or really old and have remained completely stupid. Which are you?

So, first I will amend my statement. Airs are very cool, but they are only a small part of surfing. Unless you spend all your time in three foot beach break. Then they are a huge part of your surfing! Either way, I am sick of having Magazines push them on us.

Secondly, to all the career criminals currently in prisons around the world. I apologize for comparing you to all the gangster wantabees who have tried to copy your look while riding their skateboards home from school.

Further, I will admit airs are MODERN, but so are newer fashion trends. AKA skinny jeans, t-shirts, stretch boardshorts, short boards vs. longboards hybrids vs. gas hogs etc. Besides, most kids like them. So, unless you are built like a fireplug or are old and have a fat ass, if you pride yourself on being part of the "modern collective" then for God's sake buy some new pants! Baggy pants are the jean equivalent of Retro pink single fins.

I think I will re-summit this over at GQ or that fag rag Details. You will find it listed as "The Modern Collective, Airs vs. Redundant Fashion Trends among Surfing's Home Schooled."

The only people who hate skinny jeans are the ones who are either too OLD or too FAT to wear them! If you still prefer baggy pants then you need to move a full decade forward. Oh! and if you still wear the pants around your thighs prison look then you should be in prison so your cell mates won't have so pull your pants down to get to work.
